The Weli Oya Public Library, established on February 19, 2018, serves the people of Kaluthota, Weli Oya, Welipathayaya and surrounding areas who seek knowledge. It is now classified as a third–grade library. Currently, the library houses a total of 2791 books.

Location:

Situated about 38 km from Balangoda town along the Kaluthota road, the Weli Oya Public Library belonging to the Balangoda Pradeshiya Sabha is located opposite the Weli Oya bus stop.

Library Membership Procedure:

  • Obtain the membership application form by paying the required fee.
  • Complete the form and get it certified by one of the following:
    • Grama Niladhari of the area
    • Justice of Peace
    • Member of Pradeshiya Sabha
    • Government Administrative Officer
    • School Principal (if the applicant is a student)
  • The applicant must be a resident, property owner, or permanently employed within the council area.
  • General membership fee – Rs. 100.00 (valid for 2 years)
  • Renewal fee – Rs. 50.00
  • Children’s membership fee – Rs. 50.00

Book Borrowing Procedure:

  • Members may borrow two (02) books at a time.
  • Borrowed books must be returned within 14 days.
  • A fine of Rs. 2.00 per book per day is charged for late returns.
