History of Balangoda Pradeshiya Sabha
This council, which was originally established as the “Heluda Provincial Village Council,” was later divided into two councils: the “Dahamahana Village Council” and the “Rassagala Village Council.” With the establishment of the District Development Councils on 1980-01-01, the “Dahamahana Village Council” became the main office of the Ratnapura District Development Council, while the “Rassagala Village Council” functioned as its sub-office. Due to the abolition of the District Development Councils on 1987-12-31, from 1988-01-01 onwards, “Pradeshiya Sabhas” were established. On that date, the “Dahamahana” and “Rassagala” offices of the Ratnapura District Development Council were abolished, and on 1988-01-01, the “Balangoda Pradeshiya Sabha” was formally established.
