Dengue Prevention and Control
Dengue prevention and control refers to a set of measures taken to prevent the breeding and spread of Aedes mosquitoes that transmit the dengue virus. Removing stagnant water from homes and surrounding environments at least once a week is essential to destroy mosquito breeding sites.
Covering water storage containers properly and disposing of items such as old tyres, coconut shells, and bottles help reduce mosquito breeding. Additionally, using mosquito nets, repellents, and wearing long-sleeved clothing provides protection from mosquito bites.
By maintaining a clean environment through collective community effort, dengue can be effectively controlled. Implementing planned programmes in collaboration with the Medical Officer of Health (MOH) office is a shared responsibility.
During periods of rapid dengue transmission, fogging, inspection of houses and business premises, and public awareness programmes play a vital role in controlling the spread of dengue and ensuring a healthier life for the community.
